On Tuesday, I enjoyed attending an unforgettable travel event hosted by Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI UK) at the Crowne Plaza in Newcastle. From the moment I arrived, I was transported into the vibrant and welcoming spirit of Barbados, surrounded by passionate tourism professionals, incredible hospitality and, of course, the enticing flavours of the island.
Networking with Barbados' Finest
The event kicked off with a networking and market session, where I had the opportunity to connect with some of Barbados's finest hoteliers. Both local representatives from Barbados and UK-based hotel teams were present, each sharing their insights and enthusiasm for their stunning properties. Some of the esteemed hotels I engaged with included:
Intimate Hotels of Barbados - A collection of charming, boutique accommodations that showcase the island's authentic hospitality.
The Crane Hotel - The legendary cliffside resort boasting breathtaking ocean views and rich history.
Mango Bay - A chic all-inclusive retreat perfect for those seeking a relaxing beachfront escape.
Hilton Barbados Resort - A luxury experience offering stunning oceanfront views and world-class amenities.
Dover Beach Hotel - A cosy and affordable stay near the vibrant St. Lawrence Gap.
Island Inn Hotel - A charming boutique property exuding historic elegance.
The Sands Barbados - A contemporary all-inclusive resort ideal for families and couples alike.
Each conversation left me more excited about Barbados's incredible experiences, from its boutique accommodations to its luxurious all-inclusive resorts.
A Culinary Journey to the Caribbean
Following the networking session, we were treated to an exquisite three-course dinner crafted by talented Barbadian chef Mr. Javon Cummins. Each bite transported us to the island, blending bold Caribbean spices with delicate presentation. To complement the meal, Barbados mixologist Alexander Chandler kept our glasses full with spectacular (and incredibly strong!) cocktails throughout the evening, each sip bursting with tropical flavours.
The food was to die for. Experiencing authentic Barbadian cuisine in Newcastle was a rare delight, from the expertly seasoned dishes to the perfectly balanced cocktails. It felt like a taste of the Caribbean had landed right at our table.
Exciting Giveaways & a Night to Remember
The excitement continued with a giveaway, where several lucky members of our group won incredible prizes - including an all-inclusive four-night stay at the Island Inn Hotel in Barbados! The energy in the room was electric, with everyone buzzing about the prospect of experiencing the island firsthand.
As the night drew to a close, we were treated to a live performance by a famous Barbadian band. They delivered an unforgettable setlist, covering various genres and surprising us with a reggae version of Smells Like Teen Spirit! Their infectious energy had everyone dancing, ensuring we left the evening with our spirits high and our hearts warmed by the rhythms of Barbados.
Final Thoughts
Attending the BTMI UK travel event was an incredible experience, offering invaluable insights into Barbados as a destination while immersing us in rich culture. From the passionate hotel representatives to the unforgettable food and music, every moment of the evening solidified why Barbados is a must-visit destination.
If this event was any indication, a trip to Barbados promises stunning beaches, warm hospitality, delicious cuisine, and vibrant culture - and I can't wait to help my clients experience it for themselves!
