What You'll Do

Discover the land of fire and ice on an unforgettable journey that crosses glaciers, winds through lava tubes, spans volcanic beaches, and dances under the Northern Lights. Your guides will lead you off the beaten track and into the true, untouched wilderness. You will arrive at Keflavik Airport and embark on an adventure around southern Iceland. After settling into your chosen accommodation in Reykjavik, the buzzing capital of the country, you will meet your guide downtown for an introduction to Icelandic cuisine. Stroll around the capital, visiting amazing local eateries and getting insight into a city bursting with character. In the evening, you will set off on a cruise to search for the Northern Lights around Faxaflói Bay, far from the city lights. Enjoy the inky darkness of the wilderness and, if you're lucky, catch a glimpse of the otherworldly Aurora Borealis dancing across the sky. On your second day, explore the famous Golden Circle, visiting mighty geysers, including the world-renowned Geysir, and the jaw-dropping Gullfoss waterfall, where water cascades into a striking gorge—a sight you won't soon forget. Walk in the footsteps of the Vikings at Þingvellir National Park and visit the Sky Lagoon, a beautiful spot where you can soak in geothermally warmed waters surrounded by dramatic scenery. On your third day, explore Raufarhólshellir, a magnificent lava tube that offers a unique experience as you walk through this natural tunnel formed by an eruption thousands of years ago. For your final day, take a trip to the south coast to explore some of the country's most dramatic waterfalls, including the famous Skógafoss. You will then head to a glacier where your local guide will take you on a unique glacier hike! By the time you head back to Keflavik, you will have seen the highlights of southern Iceland in an extraordinary way, discovered hidden gems, and gotten to know the local side of this captivating island during a fully immersive activity holiday in Iceland.

Food Walk and Northern Lights Cruise

Upon your arrival, you will transfer from the airport to your hotel in Reykjavík. There, you will have ample time to settle in and explore your surroundings. Later, you will meet your local guide for a relaxed walk around Reykjavík, where you will see local landmarks and learn about the Icelandic people, culture, and, of course, the food! Discover the fascinating stories, ambitious restaurants, and age-old traditions that contribute to the cuisine of this island from a local food enthusiast who is passionate about sharing Iceland’s incredible culinary delights with fun, hungry, and curious travelers! In this exciting sightseeing tour, you will explore downtown Reykjavík through delicious local cuisines that you may not discover on your own. You will stroll around the city and visit six wonderful local restaurants with your friendly and knowledgeable guide by your side. You will have the chance to try some of the best local dishes Iceland has to offer each season, including the delicious Icelandic lamb that every Icelander loves, homemade Icelandic ice cream from a secret family recipe, incredible local seafood, Icelandic cheese, a hot dog from the famous Icelandic hot dog stand, and much more! The tour will last approximately three hours and includes plenty of food to keep you satisfied. In the evening, you will embark on a Northern Lights cruise, taking you out into the dark blue waters of Faxaflói Bay in search of the mystical phenomenon known as the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, away from the bright city lights of Reykjavík. The open-top viewing decks provide the perfect vantage point for witnessing this dazzling spectacle, while our heated indoor lounge is a great place to take a break and warm up between sightings. Your expert guide will be available to answer any questions while you enjoy Mother Nature’s light show against the starry skies, wrapped in a warm overall. Onboard, you will find several outdoor viewing platforms, a large indoor saloon with toilet facilities, and a café where you can purchase light refreshments. Please note that we cannot guarantee seeing the Northern Lights, as they are a natural phenomenon completely out of our control. However, we promise to do our best, supported by experienced guides and good weather forecasts. If the tour is canceled or you do not successfully see the Northern Lights, we will be happy to welcome you again for free on your next evening.

The Golden Circle Tour

First, you have the opportunity to enjoy scenic stops at Thingvellir National Park, a remarkable site with both historical and geological significance. This is where Iceland’s parliament was established in 930 A.D. Until the era of Danish colonial rule, around 30 ruling chiefs would gather annually to discuss and shape the island’s laws. Additionally, the park features the impressive meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, making it one of the few places in the world where you can physically walk between continents. Next, you will visit Efstidalur dairy farm, where you can indulge in their delicious organic homemade ice cream. With stunning views of Mount Hekla and the chance to interact with Icelandic cows, horses, and dogs, this family-run farm is an inviting and picturesque stop. It is both family-friendly and an ideal place to experience authentic Icelandic rural life. To end the day, you will explore the breathtaking Kerið crater lake, nestled within a 3,000-year-old volcanic caldera. The lake’s vibrant colors, ranging from deep reds to striking blues, create a mesmerizing contrast against the rugged volcanic landscape, making it a truly unforgettable sight.

The Lava Tunnel

Explore the magnificent lava tunnel of Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest and most well-known lava tubes in Iceland. Located just 30 minutes from Reykjavík, it is easily accessible year-round. A journey into Raufarhólshellir offers a unique experience and an opportunity to witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption as you walk along the path where lava flowed during the Leitahraun eruption, which occurred east of the Bláfjöll mountains about 5,200 years ago. During winter, spectacular ice sculptures form inside the entrance of the cave, making the visit even more breathtaking. The next stop on the tour is the Secret Lagoon, the most relaxing part of the experience, where you will connect with Icelandic tradition. Relax your mind, body, and soul in this stunning geothermal setting. You will immerse yourself in the Seven-Step Ritual: soak in the warm lagoon, take a refreshing cold plunge, relax in the sauna, cool down with a cold mist, exfoliate with a body scrub, detoxify in the steam room, and finally, unwind in the tranquil lagoon waters.

South Coast & Glacier Walk Experience

Our first stop is the majestic Skógafoss waterfall, one of the most iconic waterfalls in Iceland. You might recognize it from the popular TV series Game of Thrones, where it played a significant role. Next, we will add some excitement to our tour with a glacier hike on the Sólheimajökull glacier, which is connected to Mýrdalsjökull, the fourth largest glacier in Iceland. You’ll spend 2.5 hours on what will surely be one of the most memorable hikes of your life, surrounded by the otherworldly landscape of ice. Your guide will show you the safest and most spectacular routes past crevasses and icy waterfalls. After the hike, we will visit the world-famous Reynisfjara black sand beach. Before heading back to the capital, our next destination will be the stunning Seljalandsfoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s most famous attractions. For a unique perspective, you can take a walk behind the waterfall and look through the cascading water. If the weather permits, we will also take you behind Seljalandsfoss and show you the somewhat hidden Gljúfrabúi, a charming waterfall tucked away in the mountainside.

It is conveniently situated between the city’s main business district and the Laugavegur shopping street, providing a perfect blend of functionality, quality, and style. Each room features a sleek bathroom, luxury bedding, free WiFi, a 40" flat-screen TV, parquet floors, and tea- and coffee-making facilities, ensuring a relaxing and modern stay. Please note that due to regulations in Reykjavik’s city center, coaches are not permitted in the area. Therefore, all transfers and excursions will use the designated pickup and drop-off point at Bus Stop 12 – Höfðatorg, located just across the street from the hotel entrance. Guests should be ready at this stop at the scheduled pickup time for their excursions or transfers.

Aurora Cabins are a magical way to experience the wintry star-filled sky and the Northern Lights, while lying comfortably in the warm bed. They are 29m² with twin or double beds, an en-suite shower room and a sofa bed which can sleep 2 children or one adult comfortably. The glass roof is heated to ensure any snow melts so that you get a clear view of the night sky. There is free Wi-Fi and an Aurora alarm.

Miðgarður by Center Hotels is conveniently located at one end of Reykjavik's main shopping street, providing a vibrant and stylish experience in the heart of the city. Guests can enjoy the lively atmosphere at Jörgensen Kitchen & Bar, which showcases local flavors and talent, featuring live music performances every Thursday night. For ultimate relaxation, the hotel's spa includes a thermal-water hot tub, perfect for unwinding under the Icelandic sky. Please note that due to city center regulations in Reykjavik, coaches are not allowed in the area. Consequently, all transfers and excursions will utilize the designated pickup and drop-off point at Bus Stop 13 – Rauðarárstígur, which is located just 20 meters from the hotel.
